The Real Housewives…of Kansas City?

As much as it pains me to admit it, guys, I’ve watched several episodes of Bravo’s The Real Houswives” series and found them somewhat entertaining. Now I’m not saying that I’m a fan of the show (I’m not ready to risk suspension of my “Man Card”), but you can learn a lot about women from watching. It’s like Real World meets Sex and the City…not that I’ve ever watched that either.
Anyway, ever wonder what It would be like if they did a Kansas City version of the show? Well, we don’t have to wonder anymore. Check out this pilot episode…

So many sandwiches, so little time! We all have our favorites. Mine is half-turkey, half-pastrami with lettuce and provolone. What about you? If you had two pick between two of the most common sandwich types, Hampton Woods, which would you pick? Take our sandwhich survey (in the column to the right).

I looove BBQ! Chances are that you do to. So I’m wagering that you’re probably already planning to hit up the Great American Barbecue Festival this weekend at Capitol Federal Park at Sandstone in Bonner Springs. Competitions on Saturday will include the Open, where contestants will cook meats ranging from beef to pork butt, side dish, dessert and a rib eating competition. The festival also includes food vendors, free samples, a carnival for youths and cooking demonstrations. The people’s choice sampling tent will also be open. Saturday’s festival hours are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and admission is $10.

Honey Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies
Did you know that the Chocolate Chip was invented at the Toll House Inn in Massachusettes around 1937? Neither did I until Google told me. I was looking for a good excuse to post a chocolate chip cookie recipe and this was as good as any that I could come up with…not that any excuse is needed to post a chocolate chip cookie recipe. The cookie is reason enough itself. Enjoy!
Honey Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies
Ingredients:
- 1 cup honey
- 1/2 cup applesauce
- 1/2 cup light or reduced calorie margarine
- 4 egg whites
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 cups flour
- 1 cup oats (quick cooking)
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/3 cup semisweet chocolate chips
Instructions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Cream honey, applesauce and margarine in large mixing bowl with electric mixer until smooth. Beat in the egg whites, individually, then add vanilla extract. Combine flour, oats, baking powder, baking soda and salt in a medium bowl and mix well. Add the dry ingredients to honey mixture and mix thoroughly. Stir in chocolate chips and the nuts. Heap teaspoonfuls of the dough mixture onto lightly greased or oiled cookie sheets. Place cookie sheet on top or middle rack in oven and bake for 12-15 minutes or until lightly golden brown. Let cookies stand for 1 minute and then remove and place on wire racks to cool completely.
Robin Hood opens this weekend. Check out the trailer!

What better role model could you ask for than Robin Hood – a kind-hearted rebel with no regard for the system. But seriously, Robin Hood was one of my favorite stories as a kid so I’m kind of excited to see the new movie when it drops this weekend (May 14). And Russel Crowe is a beast on film. He has impressed me with every movie I’ve seen him in (have you seen A Beautiful Mind…great film).
Here is the movie description per Yahoo.com…
Upon returning to his northern English village after years away fighting in the Crusades, Sir Robin Longstride learns that, in his absence, the Sheriff of Nottingham has inflicted misery on the masses by dramatically increasing taxes and abusing his power. Armed with his military intelligence and some astonishing archery skills, Robin attempts to restore peace to his homeland. In addition to battling on behalf of the peasants, Robin also fights for the heart of the recently widowed Lady Marian.

Learn how to keep your dog safe in the car
May 12, 2010 by Chris
You wouldn’t drive off without strapping your toddler or young child into a seatbelt, would you? That wouldn’t be safe, right? So why would you drive off without strapping in your dog?
Dog restraints are a safety feature that many people overlook. I think we just naturally take it for granted (I know that I have). No one ever brings up a pet that was injured in a car accident, but I’m sure it happens.
“A loose dog in the front passenger seat may be killed by the airbag. An injured or frightened dog who’s loose may interfere with emergency personnel, or even bite them. A scared, disoriented dog may survive the crash only to be hit by a passing car.”
If this sounds like an issue you need to catch up on, check out this article, Dogs and Car Safety, from one of my favorite websites – QuickAndDirtyTips.com!
Fill Mom’s Gas Tank
May 8, 2010 by Chris

I love my mother (and wife) dearly but I’m terrible at shopping for gifts. Especially on Mother’s Day because I always want to find that special, unique gift idea that outdoes what I did last year. But still, I always wait until the last minute and I never know exactly what to get. But this year I did some “web surf research” and f0und some pretty cool, unique and inexpensive ideas. Here’s one…
Take your mother’s car and fill it up with gas. Simple, yet effective. This is by far not the cheapest Mother’s Day gift these days, but if you show up at Mom’s on Mother’s Day, no gift and without a clue, remember that this can save you in a pinch.
You can even take it one step further and run her car through the car wash.
If you want to check out a few more ideas, check out the Mother’s Day Central website.
